23 Weeks and Pregnancy Blues

It's been a busy Easter break for us Lee's. My parents went to China for a week (from April 17th to April 23rd) to bring my grandmother here for a visit so Danny and I became the babysitter. We packed up and moved to my parents' house to babysit my sibs- I know they are old but my parents are very protective of them. On top of that, I have to open and close their store for the week. Most of the days my sister were there with me to open and close the store so it wasn't too unbearable but it is definitely physically draining to sit in a retail store from 9am till 7:30pm for a week! I don't know how my dad does this 364 days a year (the only day he takes off is on Chinese New Year... even then it's a half day). Thank god that's over and I still had a few days of relaxation before school starts tomorrow.

We had our 22 weeks sonogram at Beth Israel on Monday April 18th and this time it was sooo detailed! the sonogram technician measured every single body parts you can think of lol and it was quite entertaining watching baby lee roll around on the monitor. Danny took a day off to go with me and when the baby was rolling around, he asked if I could feel it... I totally could not feel any rolling at all haha and it's definitely a blessing since it would be quite annoying to feel all these movements all the time. I do feel baby lee kick more often now, it usually kicks in the morning... after lunch... and in the early evening. It is getting stronger and stronger, I can see his kicks on my tummy.

Danny painted our nursery during this break :) it's benjamin moore's crisp morning air, a light sky blue color. It came out really nice and sweet. We read that green and blue are the most calming to babies and since the green they recommend is a hospital green, we opted for this light blue instead. We also ordered baby lee's crib and it arrived today.. yay! It's a white DaVinci Emily 4 in 1 crib. We were deciding between the color white and expresso for the longest time and finally we thought white would work best for a neutral nursery. After extensive research, we decided on this crib because of the way it looks and its got lots of good reviews. Here are some pictures:

We plan on getting this dresser from ikea to serve also as a changing station:

We'll see how these furniture fits into the nursery before purchasing anything else.

As of the pregnancy blues, I got visibly larger this week. It's as if I ballooned over night... It's quite scary actually. People say that I look bigger than 5 months =( which makes me sad. I think it's because I've gotten so big that I am feeling the pregnancy blues this week. I get sad at night times and I feel like crying sometimes for no reason! I never thought I would care so much about how I look during pregnancy but I do! I feel very unattractive and my big belly is getting in the way when I am sitting on the bed and trying to be comfy. I still sleep fine but it's just not the same compare to before. Hopefully I'll get pass this phase and be cheery again soon.

Week 21 Update

Every time we have our doctor's appointment, we try to make it a fun day in the city since we are driving all the way to Manhattan. Per usual, we start our day eating yummy burgers and cheese fries at Shake Shack:

On our way to the doctor's office, we passed by this rally at Union Square:

Normally, the wait at the doctor's office is not so bad, but there was an emergency this morning so all the appointments were pushed back and we had to wait over 2 hours to see Dr. Wong! It was all worth it at the end though, we saw Baby Lee moving around in there being very active and looking healthy :) It is measuring at approximately 21 weeks and everything seems to be normal. Danny was able to feel the baby kick for the first time on Monday (on our anniversary!) hehe it was extra special for us. I feel Baby Lee kick regularly now... usually once or twice a day, but sometimes I won't feel him/her at all the entire day. Dr. Wong said it's all very normal and I should feel the baby's kick regularly from now on.

We met up with Syl and Ed for some afternoon tea afterwards :)

Here are our plans for the upcoming weeks: prep and paint the nursery, order furniture for the nursery, and decorate. Can't wait!

4 Year Anniversary

We started four years ago today. I am so thankful that God has "us" planned. Though I don't say it often, assuming you would know how grateful I am to have found you, my soul mate, I want to take this chance to tell you how grateful I am to have the chance to love you <3

Amongst all the other million things that you do for me, for us. Here are a few that I would like to thank you for:

1. Thank you for doing the dishes knowing I just hate doing dishes
2. Thank you for cleaning up the mess that I leave around the house (I try my best not to!)
3. Thank you for remembering to make rice for me in the morning so I can bring it for lunch
4. Thank you for taking care of the pups in the morning so I don't have to
5. Thank you for doing my grad school homework so I can get an extra hour of sleep
6. Thank you for cheering me up when I'm down
7. Thank you for knowing how to make me laugh
8. Thank you for being the loving husband you are
9. Thank you for loving me
10. Thank you for being you

I love you and I can't wait to celebrate our anniversary with you tonight :)

Week 20

It doesn't feel like we are half way done... but we are! We are so excited to celebrate this big milestone- we are going to check out a few SLR cameras tomorrow! Our next OBGYN appointment is next Saturday, after that, we will have our 3-D sonogram at Beth Israel on the 18th of April :) We can't wait to see Baby Lee 3-D!

I felt the baby move last week for the first time! I have been feeling these weird flutters since week 18 but was not sure if it's the baby or just... gas... I am pretty sure that it's the baby moving around in there now :) I usually feel him/her move when I'm just sitting and watching TV. Danny still can't feel the baby yet, hopefully he will soon.

I wore my very first maternity jeans this week and I love it! None of my pants fit me anymore so I have been just wearing dresses and yoga pants to work. Finally, I decided to purchase a pair of gap maternity skinny jeans. I am pleasantly surprised at how nicely they fit! I love how I can still wear skinny jeans while pregnant :) Because of this, I went ahead and ordered another pair of gap maternity jeans- can't wait for it to come! Besides these maternity jeans, I am not investing in any other maternity clothing yet, I did purchase a few summer dresses that fits me and my growing belly. I love all my recent purchases since they are not maternity so they fit me nicely (maternity dresses are way too big for me) Also, I can wear these dresses after the baby is born too!

As for pregnancy symptoms, besides the occasional dizziness that I have when I stand too long, Baby Lee has been treating mama pretty nicely still :) I eat fine and sleep well... so no complain on my part! I am quite emotional/sensitive these days though... I guess it's the hormones. I have been sleeping on my back still... I try to sleep on my side more but it's been hard. Dr Wong said I can sleep on my back until I get bigger so I guess I'll use the snoogle more at that time.

Eating for Two

So they say you eat for two when you are pregnant... but it's really not true. In fact, we only need an additional 300 calories daily... that's nothing! These days my appetite just increased tremendously. I am hungry all the time!! I try to snack on healthy snacks such as nuts, goldfish crackers, fruits, milk, yogurt, etc. But occasionally I indulge in not so healthy snacks/meals such as McDonald's, gyro, instant noodle, spam, etc. I feel really guilty every time I eat these unhealthy foods :( luckily, these are rare occasions.

Last week, I finally had tuna melt for the first time since we got pregnant... gasp! I limited myself to less than one can of tuna and it was heavenly... :) Can't wait till my next meal of tuna melt! (probably not in a few more weeks)

With my huge appetite, naturally, I am gaining weight... I've gained approximately 5 lbs by now and we are in week 18. I really really hope I can control my weight gain, it's so scary to see the scale go up and up on a weekly basis! Luckily, I lost about 10 lbs before getting pregnant (over a 6 months period of time, not on purpose), so my weight right now is still below my average weight... but not for long.

My maternity clothing arrived a few days ago and none of them fit me! They are all too big for me even though it's x-smalls. So I ended up returning them. A friend advised me not to buy maternity clothing, instead, purchase regular clothing that would fit me during pregnancy, i.e. flowy dresses. I took that advice and ordered a few spring/summer dresses from the regular petite women section :) we'll see how that goes haha

It seems like I have to sleep on my side soon, so I purchased a snoogle pillow on amazon and it arrived today! I can't wait to try it out and see if it's comfy to sleep on haha. I've always been a side sleeper anyway but my favorite position is actually on my back, so hopefully this pillow will help me stay on my side :)

Overall I feel great and most of the time I don't even feel pregnant. So far, Baby Lee has been treating mama pretty good and I'm loving it!
